A Prayer To All The Dead Among Mine Own People

Are these your presences, my clan from Heaven?
Are these your hands upon my wounded soul?
Mine own, mine own, blood of my blood be with me,
Fly by my path till you have made me whole!

Vachel Lindsay? That’s going pretty deep into the collective consciousness of American poetry!

He is one of our greats. William Booth Enters Into Heaven is one of the greatest poems ever written or chanted. Any poet who walked across America trading his book of poetry for his evening bread is just alright with me!
