Meadowkirk Sunrise

Its slow rise
Over wooded hills
Has only limited hues,
Just pink’s blush
With light yellow
Merely peeking
Between receding clouds
Burning dew
Off parched fields.
Now it is impossible
For jack rabbits
And white tailed deer
To hide on the edges
Of tall brown grass
Nor can they ignore
The bird’s early alarms.
