This basketful of crazy
carried year after year
contains vipers and rabbits
who bite, nibble and consume
yet molt, shed and reproduce.
The cries and silently angry mother.
The hand’s grip woven into hair
in daddy’s violent grip.
Taken pill after pill after pill
and gulp after gulp after gulp
until their late night pleas
fell silent to a universe’s heart.
Killing every cell’s response
until that numb absence
regains it’s staggered footing
blurred unrecognizable emotion
into cycles of rage and fear.
Every diatribe punctuated
by ever tightening, dreamlike noose
around constricted chords
emitting auditory hallucinations
of elaborate symphonies.
