Shekinah Glory

Did Adam procure
his first dirt
underneath fingernails
emerging from dust
or after the fall
when he was cursed
to work the soil?

Can humanity be
fully understood
without digging
up the earth’s crust?

Constitutionally unwise
is it to trust
those unwilling
to emerge from earth,
dirt obscured prints
and speckled across
forearm’s hair.
We find our curse
not in toiling earth
but knowing our wash
from it is temporary,
until a day returned
to the soil
we are reunited
as one.
